Shaatika ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Shaatika mobile application and website (shaatika.in) (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect the personal information of users ("you" or "user") who access or use our Service.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use our Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide to Us

  • Account Information: When you register, we collect your phone number for OTP-based authentication. You may optionally provide your name and city.
  • Seller Information: If you register as a seller, we collect your shop name, shop location, shop description, shop photographs, identity documents (Aadhaar or PAN number for verification), GST number (optional), and bank account or UPI details for receiving payouts.
  • Delivery Information: When you place an order, we collect your delivery address, name, phone number, city, state, and pin code.
  • Payment Information: Payment processing is handled by Razorpay, our third-party payment gateway. We do not store your UPI credentials, card numbers, or bank login details on our servers. Please refer to Razorpay's privacy policy for information on how they handle your payment data.
  • Content You Upload: Sellers upload saree photos, drape videos, saree descriptions, and related catalog information.
  • Communications: If you contact us via email or other channels, we collect the content of your messages.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: We collect device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and app version.
  • Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the Service, including pages viewed, sarees browsed, search queries, time spent on pages, and features used (such as "Share with Family" usage).
  • Log Data: We collect server logs that may include your IP address, access times, and referring URLs.
  • Location Data: We may collect approximate location (city-level) based on your IP address to show relevant saree collections and delivery estimates. We do not collect precise GPS location.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate your identity.
  • To facilitate transactions between buyers and sellers, including order processing, delivery, and payment settlement.
  • To display and operate the marketplace, including saree listings, seller profiles, search results, and curated collections.
  • To enable the "Share with Family" feature, which generates shareable content (saree details and links) for you to send via WhatsApp or other platforms.
  • To send order-related notifications (order confirmation, status updates, delivery tracking) via push notifications and SMS.
  • To verify seller identity and maintain platform quality and trust.
  • To process seller payouts through Razorpay Route.
  • To improve the Service, including analyzing usage patterns, fixing bugs, and optimizing performance.
  • To communicate with you about your account, respond to inquiries, and provide customer support.
  • To comply with legal obligations and resolve disputes.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • Between Buyers and Sellers: When you place an order, the seller receives your delivery name, phone number, delivery address, and city to fulfill the order. Sellers see only the information necessary for order fulfillment.
  • Payment Processor: Transaction data is shared with Razorpay for payment processing and seller payout settlement.
  • Delivery Partners: Your delivery name, phone number, and address are shared with our delivery partners (such as Dunzo or Porter) for order fulfillment.
  • Service Providers: We may share data with service providers who assist us in operating the Service (hosting, analytics, push notification services), subject to confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal Compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government regulation, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers located in India (Azure Central India region in Pune / AWS Mumbai region). We do not transfer your personal data outside of India. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encrypted data transmission using TLS/SSL for all communications between the app and our servers.
  • Encrypted storage for sensitive data such as identity documents and bank account details.
  • Secure server infrastructure with access controls, firewalls, and regular security updates.
  • Access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel on a need-to-know basis.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, tax, or regulatory purposes. Seller catalog content (saree photos, videos, descriptions) is removed upon account deletion. Transaction records may be retained for up to 7 years for tax and audit compliance.

6. Cookies, Analytics & Tracking Technologies

The Shaatika mobile app does not use browser cookies. However, the Service uses the following tracking technologies:

  • Firebase Analytics: We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with the app, including screen views, feature usage, session duration, and crash reports. Firebase Analytics may collect device identifiers and usage data. Please refer to Firebase's privacy documentation for details.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): We use FCM to deliver push notifications to your device. FCM uses a device token to route notifications. This token is not linked to your personal identity.
  • Crash Reporting: We may collect crash logs and diagnostic data to identify and fix bugs. This data includes device type, OS version, app version, and stack traces, but does not include personal information.

Our website (shaatika.in) may use basic analytics (such as page view counts) but does not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

7. Push Notifications & SMS

  • Push Notifications: With your consent (granted through your device's notification settings), we send push notifications for order updates (confirmed, packed, shipped, delivered), new arrivals from sellers you follow, and promotional announcements. You can disable push notifications at any time through your device's settings.
  • SMS: We send SMS messages for OTP verification during login, order confirmation and status updates, and delivery notifications. Transactional SMS related to your orders cannot be opted out of while you have active orders, as they are essential for order fulfillment. We do not send promotional SMS without your consent.

8. Consent & Legal Basis

We process your personal information based on the following legal grounds:

  • Consent: You provide consent when you register for an account, upload content, or enable notifications. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account or adjusting your notification settings.
  • Contractual Necessity: Processing is necessary to fulfill our obligations under the Terms of Service, including facilitating transactions, processing payments, and enabling delivery.
  • Legitimate Interest: We process certain data (such as analytics and usage patterns) to improve the Service, prevent fraud, and ensure platform security.
  • Legal Obligation: We may process and retain data as required by Indian tax, accounting, and regulatory laws.

9. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: You can request access to the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: You can update or correct your account information at any time through the app.
  • Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data. See our Account Deletion page for instructions.
  • Portability: You can request a copy of your data in a structured, commonly used format.
  • Opt-out: You can opt out of promotional communications. Order-related notifications are essential and cannot be opted out of while you have active orders.

10. Third-Party Services

The Service may contain links to third-party services (such as WhatsApp for the "Chat with Seller" feature, and Razorpay for payments). These third-party services have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to read them. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services.

11. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete such information.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made thereunder, the name and contact details of the Grievance Officer are as follows:
